Looking up
| | A helpful reader pointed me (and now the rest of us) to this excellent site for pretty much everything that's happening overhead right now, including the Leonid meteor shower (which is trailing off but still going on) and the Aurora Borealis. Also this page, which follows the heavy solar weather that causes the northern lights to spread south every so often. |
Underheard
| | A friend will help you move. A really good friend will help you move a body. |
Wow!
| | That's what we said over and over last night as we lay on our back deck on an air mattress sandwiched between layers of blankets, comforters, sleeping bags and large coats, staring up at the at the Leonid meteor storm from 2am until dawn. |
| | It was spectacular. At one point I counted twelve meteors streaking past Jupiter through Gemini alone. At dawn Leo was straight up, a showerhead of meteors streaking out from a single point near the lion's head, celestial fireworks for a crown. What an amazing show. |
| | After the first hour I was the only one able to stay awake, but I just lay there listening to jazz, classical music and a little talk radio on a walkman. I think I ended up getting about two hours of sleep. But I'm a happy camper. |
